The two chapters in Part Three help you to look at the larger contexts in which your
sentences operate. While the chapters in Parts One and Two open with brief writing
assignments, the chapters in Part Three ask you to think more carefully about what you're
doing when you organize a composition. Chapter 16 focuses on specific techniques for
increasing the clarity of your paragraphs, and Chapter 17 challenges you to write longer
works for larger audiences.
As you work on assignments in Part Three, you may find it useful to print out and keep close at hand the Sentence Sense bookmark. It will remind
you how to help another writer with peer responses, and it will help you edit your work to
avoid errors that could distract your readers from the flow of your thoughts.
