10.4 Final -ed: Simple Past Tense

The simple past tense expresses past action through a one-word verb. Although irregular verbs have unpredictable spellings for their simple past forms, every regular verb in the simple past tense ends in -ed.

Einstein dreaded the development of the atomic bomb, although he recognized that his work made it inevitable.
