chapter 3.1 Subjects: Writing

Nardia Hudson: 21 February 1997

Thirteen years ago, I went on my first journey overseas. We prepared ourselves by packing ahead of time, buying all the necessary tickets we needed, and getting a good night's rest. In the morning we headed out early so that we wouldn't miss the plane. The ride was long, boring, miserable and hot, but we finally got there. You should probably know that I am not from the urban part of my country. So you can imagine what a seven year old girl like myself was thinking at the time. My mother was anxious to get aboard so we said farewell to my father and brothers. Once we were on the aircraft the stewardesses showed us where to place our luggage, how to put on our seatbelts, what to do in case of an emergency, and they even helped us with our embassy forms. After a three hour flight, we landed at the JFK airport. I was so overwhelmed by the presence of all the strange and mysterious people. Mom, being the over-protective mom that she is, held tight of my arm and pulled me off to the luggage belt. This was my chance to look around, because I knew that she would have to let go of my arm to get the baggage. As soon as she let go I was off, but I didn't get too far. The people there pushed me from one side to another, bumped me around, and even stepped on me. I had to run back under the safety of my mother's arm.

Thirteen years ago, Chelsea went on her first journey overseas. She prepared herself by packing ahead of time, buying all the necessary tickets she needed, and getting a good night's rest. In the morning Chelsea and her parents headed out early so that they wouldn't miss the plane. The ride was long, boring, miserable and hot, but they finally got there. You should probably know that she was not from the urban part of her country. So you can imagine what a seven-year-old girl like such as herself was thinking at the time. Her mother was anxious to get aboard so they said farewell to her father and brothers. Once they were on the aircraft the flight attendants showed them where to place their luggage, how to put on the seatbelts, what to do in case of an emergency, and they even helped the two females with their embassy forms. After a three hour flight she landed at the JFK airport. She was so overwhelmed by the presence of all the strange and mysterious people. Her mom, being the over-protective mom that she is, held on tightly to her arm and pulled her off to the luggage belt to receive their bagggages. This was Chelsea's one chance to look around, because she knew that her mom would have to let go of her arm to get the suitcases. As soon as her mom let go she was off but she didn't get too far. The people there pushed her from one side to another, bumped her around, and even stepped on her. She had to run back under the safety of her mother's arm. On that day, Chelsea learned a very important message, being that she should never stray from the safety of her mother's love.
