chapter 3.1 Subjects: Writing

Aquia Davis: 25 February 1997

Last year, I went to this club called Mikara's in Springfield, CT. It was a cold and bitter night to stand out in line. I drove 45 minutes from home and I was so desperate that I stood out in line for 25 minutes. When I finally got inside of the club I was so ecstatic. I didn't know how much more of the bitterness I could tolerate from being out there. The club was packed full of people from the age 21 and above. Men and Women. Whites, Blacks and Hispanics. It sure felt like unity to be in a crowd with people of different races. I was having a good time dancing and socializing with people that I knew and with people that I had just met for the first time that night. I must admit, I felt timid at first because I have never been to the club before but after two hours I began to open up. My friends and I had a few drinks but not enough to get us too drunk to drive. I was really enjoying myself. For once in my life I could go out without worrying about getting hurt. I witnessed no fights and I will return one day when it's not too cold.
