Placement Testing For All New Students

All new students must take a computerized Accuplacer Placement Test prior to registering for classes. The results are used to place students into appropriate classes.

Which Test Should I Take?

General Placement Test

If you have answered yes to any of these questions, then the General Placement Test is for you!

How Do I Prepare For The Test?

To prepare for the test, visit or call the Academic Success Center in Room 409, 860.906.5200

What Should I Bring?

  • Your student banner ID #
  • A picture ID
  • A pen or pencil

Scratch paper will be provided.
No calculators are allowed.

Appointments are not required for the test. Please arrive at least 30 minutes before the test. Space is limited; entrance is on a first-served basis on the days and times below:

Teas Testing Schedule

The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) measures basic essential skills in the academic content areas of reading, mathematics, science and English and language usage. The objectives assessed on the TEAS exam are those which nurse educators deemed most appropriate and relevant to measure entry-level academic readiness of the nursing program applicants.

Taking the TEAS V:

  • Time limit is 209 minutes
  • 170 four-option, multiple choice questions:
    • READING: 48 questions, 58 minutes
    • paragraph comprehension, passage comprehension, and inferences/conclusions.
    • MATH: 34 questions, 51 minutes
      whole numbers, metric conversion, fractions, decimals, algebraic equations, percentages, and ratio/proportion.
    • SCIENCE: 54 questions, 66 minutes
      science reasoning, science knowledge, biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, basic physical principles, and general science.
    • ENGLISH and LANGUAGE USAGE: 34 questions, 34 minutes
      punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, contextual words, and spelling.
  • Calculators, food and drinks are not allowed in the testing room
  • Results are available upon completion

How do I prepare?

The ATI website has many resources available for purchase, including: Learning Strategies, TEAS Pre-test Study Manual and TEAS Online Practice assessments.

How do I register?

  1. Visit atitesting.com and click "Create an account" (follow the screen prompts).
  2. Please ensure you have listed Capital CC Connecticut as your institution of choice on your ATI Profile.
  3. Select the date you would like to test and add it to your cart for checkout. Test registration fee is $35.00.

Test Day:

  • Please come to Room 220, 20-minutes prior to your scheduled exam.
  • Students who arrive late will NOT be admitted into the exam.
  • You are required to bring a government-issued, non-expired photo ID.
  • Bring your ATI username and password.
  • Parking is available in the Morgan Street Garage. Parking tickets will be validated at the welcome desk in the lobby (1st floor).

Note: There is no waiting period to retake the test.

Students with Disabilities

If you have a documented disability and will require testing accommodations, please contact Helena Carrasquillo at 860.906.5204 or hcarrasquillo@captialcc.edu. To obtain accommodations, you must schedule an appointment with Helena and provide documentation which describes your disability and supports your need to receive accommodations. This should be done 2 weeks prior to your exam date. Accommodations will only be provided to those who completed this process.

How do I register for the TEAS? You will need to register on the ATI website.
