Photography as Public Art
Prof. Pablo Delano, Trinity College
Delano shared a personal account of his four year odyssey in the world
of public art. He described the political, social, and artistic challenges
in creating a series of photographs permanently installed in a new
elementary school in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York City.
Delano's goal was to "create a piece that advocated an alternative view of
the common notion echoed in the media about Washington Heights; to make a
work of art that would validate the community children's cultural heritage
and help build self-esteem."
