Adjusting the Sound LevelsClose-up of Volume Knob
JUMP DOWN TO: COMPUTER SOUND CONTROLS

Sound levels of all the Presentation Components and Microphones are adjusted simultaneously from the Control Panel on the top of the Instructor‘s Desk. The Volume Knob (pictured at right) will raise and lower the master sound level. When using sound-only presentation materials (such as listening to an Audio CD, or playing an Audio Cassette), you do not have to turn on the Multi-Media Projector to activate the sound system.

If your classroom is equipped with Microphones, you have additional sound level adjustments on the Control Panel, located near the VCR Controls. Close-up of Mix ControlsThese Audio Controls are used to mix the sound levels of the audio-visual devices with the sound levels of the microphones.

Use Input Level to adjust the sound of your visual device (i.e. the VCR, Lectern Computer, etc.) separate from the Microphone level.

Mix Level will then raise or lower the level of your microphone, without changing the audio level of your other sound sources.

Once you have set the levels for the Mic and the other sound source independently, then use the Master Volume knob on the Control Panel (pictured at top) to turn all sound up or down together.

COMPUTER SOUND CONTROLS
The Lectern Computer (or any laptop computer) has its own software sound control panel, which regulates the sound levels coming out of the computer before it's mixed into the classroom presentation system. If adjusting the Volume Knob has no affect on the computer sound level, you'll probably need to adjust the computer's Sound Control Panel.Task Bar Image

To open the Sound Control Panel on a Windows computer, click the mini speaker icon in the task bar at the lower right hand corner of the desktop (see image at right). If there is no speaker icon, go to Start Menu, click on Control Panels, then Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices > Sound and Audio Devices. You'll get a control panel with various adjustable volume levels. Be sure they are all up to their maximum levels, and that none are muted.
