Math Center Philosophy
The Math Center embraces the view that each student, regardless of previous educational attainments and background, can significantly develop his/her mathematical abilities and thereby open doors of opportunity that would otherwise remain closed.
The Math Center enacts this philosophy by accepting students at their current level of mathematical development and providing personalized support services that enable students to develop the skills, concepts, and confidence to become more effective learners.
The Math Center is prepared to be a key player in establishing access routes into technical fields for a student body that reflects the emerging workforce - immigrants, women, and persons of color. This challenge is also a major opportunity.
Math Center Resources
| How Can We Help You? |
| Highly skilled Tutor-Liaisons provide a vital link between the Math Center's support services and the mathematics classes. In the developmental courses, Tutor-Liaisons attend the classes and, under the direction of the instructor, work closely with students in the classroom to further enhance the learning process. In the Math Center, the Tutor-Liaisons are instrumental in delivering an array of services to students.

| How Can You Help Yourself? |
|
While offering encouragement, guidance, and assistance, the Center recognizes that responsibility for learning belongs to the student. It cannot be taken away or given away. To fulfill this responsibility and get the most from the Math Center's services, students are expected to:
- Work on homework independently prior to seeking help.
- Be prepared for tutoring sessions, bringing text, notes, and specific questions.
- Plan to receive assistance with the material as opposed to having homework done for them.
- Use videos, only in the Center, in exchange for college ID.
- Strive to improve study skills and approaches to learning mathematics.
