INTRODUCTION
This tutorial is designed to achieve the following goals:After you have read each chapter of the tutorial and completed the assignments, you should be able to:
- To teach you the basics of library and information research; and
- To teach you how to use the Capital Community College Library.
The goal of the tutorial is to make you feel comfortable and confident while doing library research. If you need assistance please contact a librarian.
- Find a book using the computerized catalog and locate it on the shelf;
- Use the computerized catalog to determine whether a book has been checked out;
- Use journal and newspaper indexes to locate current information on specific subjects;
- Evaluate sources of information for author bias and authority;
- Learn to develop a search strategy.
HOW TO USE THE TUTORIAL
You should go through this tutorial at a pace that you find comfortable. Read each section thoroughly before doing the practice exercise. If at any time you run into problems with the tutorial, you may ask questions via the CCC Information Skills Bulletin Board and a librarian will respond. The reference librarian will gladly review with you any areas where you are having difficulty. If you wish to read what others have written in the guestbook, click HERE.To complete Chapter 2 you will need a CCC library card. The library card barcode # will be your password. Fill out the Library Card Application and we will email you your barcode #, as well as a password for Chapter 4. We will subsequently send you your card via snail mail.
WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED . . .
When you have completed reading the chapters and doing the various exercises, please fill out the Evaluation Form (the last item on the frame to the left). Your input will be greatly appreciated and will be used to make improvements in the tutorial.
