Finding Information: Books

Practice Exercise
Look for a book by American poet Maya Angelou. You have the options of searching by Title Keyword, Author Browse, or Left Anchored Title among others. Select Author Browse.

Type Angelou Maya in the box provided (you must search last name, first name). Search.
Click on #1 from the list.
Click on any one of the books from the list.

  1. Write down the full status of the item (the location, call number and status).


Chapter Two
Finding Information: Journals

Practice Exercise
Look for a journal article using the online database Infotrac Onefile.
To begin click on "Information Databases" and scroll to "Infotrac Onefile via the Connecticut Digital Library" near the middle of the page.
Do a practice search. Type in a topic of your choice.
Click on Search.
Select an article and click on "text and retrieval choices" to view the full text of the article.

  1. Write down the title of the article, the source (magazine name), and author of the article.


Chapter Three
Finding Newspaper Articles

Practice Exercise
Find a newspaper article in Newsbank. For this exercise you will need the following username and password: ra-2032, ra-2032.

To begin click on "Newsbank NewsFile".
Click on Newsbank NewsFile (1991-current).
Click in the box and type in crime and hartford. Click on Search.
Select an article of interest and click on the title of the article.
Scroll down to view the full text.

  1. Write down the name of the newspaper, the date the article was published, and the title of the article.
