CATALOG COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course will examine the history of
African Americans since the end of slavery in 1865. It will focus on the
many ways in which African Americans have struggled to achieve freedom
and equality in American society. The various meanings of freedom,
segregation, migration patterns, urbanization, Black Nationalism,
leadership protest strategies, and the Civil Rights Movement will be
explored. The course will also examine how the search for civil rights
and black pride has been and continues to be expressed in art, music,
literature, and fashion.
