Tables and Figures

The use of tables and figures is too complicated to treat within this document; students should consult the APA Publication Manual. Generally, however, it is useful to label each and every table and figure with the word Table or Figure and an arabic numeral identifying it. Titles should be underlined. The text accompanying tables and figures must be double-spaced.

The APA suggests that all tables and figures appear at the end of the paper, each on a separate page. Some schools and colleges, however, require these elements to appear within the body of the paper. A great deal may depend on the capabilities of the word-processing machine you are using. Consult with your instructor before deciding where to place tables and figures.
